Harvey has illuminated our need for a new roof. What is the reasonable range of cost per square? We are probably going to go with a shingle like Owens Corning Duration or Certain Teed landmark? I know there will be many scammers out right now, so the more educated we are, the better. Thanks!

Anybody have any info to share? Right now the quotes we have are about 300-400 per square. Does that sound right?

We're building a new house, and had our entire roof done (82 squares) including flashing, ridge vents, etc, for $12,500. That was with certain teed landmark shingles.

Keep in mind, we didn't have any old shingles to remove since it was new construction.

Default My costs...

I've been doing my own GC work, purchasing materials myself, and paying for labor only. My new garage apartment, plus addition is small, about 35 squares, came out to $145 per square. I've been the General Contractor throughout the whole process, even the permitting process. It is a lot of work, but I am also saving a lot of money. Also, since I get bids for everything, and shop around, I am learning exactly what it costs to purchase materials, vs labor costs. One benefit is no material is 'padded', so that helps in the end.

That's actually how we got our price as well... using an owner-builder program for our house where my wife is the listed general contractor. It's amazing how much mark up there is in the building industry.
