On June 15, 2018, Southwest Key Programs has signed a lease with a former Star of Hope facility at 419 Emancipation Avenue. Stakeholders were told the facility would house up to 230 children under the age of 12, and pregnant and nursing teenagers who were detained after illegally crossing the border on their own or who were separated from their parents after entering as a family.

The large vacant warehouse in downtown Houston has housed women and families who were once homeless and adults displaced by Hurricane Harvey.

I find this post rather politically charged. What does it have to do with Houston?

The shelter location is in Houston. My post is an info, not political charged, unless you want it to be.

So what, is a shelter in Houston? I am sure there are tons of shelters in this city. Why would any of us care?

You know better than this and just because you can doesn't give you license to post anything you want.

When you say shelter for immigrants you already made it political. Just sayin' in case is not that obvious to you.

Do you really care we will have a new shelter for immigrant children? If you do, you just made it political :-) There is only one outcome to this post and you all know it. Watch it unfold :-).

I think if you are not ready to provide quality life to your future kids, don't make kids and wait till you become more financially stable. Kids is a serious responsibility.

I object to the splitting of families. I know they are citing scripture to "obey the laws" but I can also cite more relevant scripture:

Lev 19:33-34 "When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God."

So I think it's extremely clear what the bible wants us to do with any immigrants. We MUST treat them as native born.

And I object at illegal immigrants constantly breaking our laws and putting their own kids at risk. Isn't that the big elephant in the room? And somehow we're now to blame for following our own laws and protecting our country? Just basic common sense, forget the scripture.

Many of the children being separated from there parents did NOT cross the border illegally. They presented themselves at the border to seek asylum in accordance with our laws. The border guards took them across the border and took them into custody and separated their children from them which is not what the law says should happen. Taking children away from parents who are legally trying to seek asylum in the United States constitutes a violation of the family’s rights to due process.
