Do you think that Houston will become a big tourist destination itself along the lines of Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio in the near future.

Houston is already a big tourist destination if your standards include those other Texas cities (especially Dallas).

Exactly the OP is misguided in his assumptions, especially if you include Galveston in the tourist equation...

Houston is a tourist destination in its own right.

Don't get huffy with me AH I understand Houston is a draw on it's own, but I'm sure DFW combines totals from both sides of its metro, and with Galveston's Cruise Ship business booming the way it is, I doubt it's even close anymore....

Houston gets more international visitors. Dallas gets more domestic visitors:

I bet most of those "international visitors" are from south of the border...

Those figures are a few years old . "According to figures compiled by OmniTrak’s TravelTrakAmerica and Travel Marketing Insights An estimated 21.8 million domestic and international combined visits occurred in the Bayou City during the 12-month period.

The overall figure is drawn from a three year rolling average, with an estimated 18.3 million domestic business and leisure travelers according to figures compiled by OmniTrak. The domestic numbers show a 6% increase over 2016. Most notably, Millennials continue to advance Houston’s numbers domestically. This trend is echoed in both 2017 and 2018 Omnibus studies, also conducted by OmniTrak, which gauges sentiment and intent to travel.

Of the 18.3 million domestic visits to the city in 2017, approximately 80% were overnight visitors and 20% came for day trips. Roughly 73% of the domestic total came to Houston for leisure activities, while 15% were here for business and 12% characterized their trip outside of these two categories."

So Houston wasn't that far behind Dallas in those figures you posted and I doubt Galveston was included in any of the studies sighted.

We'll see how more recent figures pan out as they become available.

Why does that even matter? There's more south of the border than north anywhere, so they could be coming from many areas.
