So the rain from last night washed all the dye from the newly installed mulch from the nearby flower bed into the pool water and made it dark black. I need to have a talk with my gardener about the mulch he put in there. Did anyone have this happened to them?

But, what are my courses of actions here? Can I restore the water without dumping it all out? I don't need to use the pool anytime soon. I just looks terrible and I am worried about water quality when time comes to get in the water.

There is lot more crap that goes into the pool than you imagine. Just shock it a few times like ethan says (leave some time in between to let it work) and do a measurement to see. All the rain probably throw off the pool balance anyway.

Forgot, clean the main filters as well. Most likely they will get clogged with all the much stuff. Depending of how much mulch got in.

yeah, just keep the pump on 24/7 for a few days. clean the filters or backwash when done. see how the water looks after a few days.

Thanks all of you guys for the suggestions.

I shocked my pool yesterday and the pump been running since then. The water is already a little less dark but it still needs to go a long way. I will probably shock it again after couple of days.

Stay away from dyed mulches (red, brown and black). Besides being bad for your pool, it's not good for your plants. Some brands are ground up pallets and/or lumber. Go with a natural mulch. Hardwood is the soup de jour currently. But I still use pine bark. It's naturally dark and amends my alkaline soil. Dirt cheap at Lowe's.
