I'm relocating to Houston from Dallas (Frisco) for work. My job has an office in Downtown and Sugar Land; both have openings.

Where would I find the most similar suburbs to what you see around Plano, Denton, McKinney, etc? I'm looking for somewhere with large post-2010 builds, wide open space, big backyards, etc. but plenty of industry, shopping, and things to do. $600k for a 4 br+ home, min 2500 sq ft.

Three kids (5, 9, and 13), we want excellent, top-ranked schools. My spouse and I both attended rigorous colleges (Wake Forest, Baylor, Wash&Lee) and want our children to be able to follow in our footsteps. Private school is an option we'll consider, but we'd prefer to not have to.

Lastly we want a conservative area. Especially in light of this recent election, we don't want to encounter liberals getting in our face and yelling about hating Trump etc (it's happened to us in Dallas). Somewhere we won't fear being harassed for having a MAGA cap on.

The Woodlands is probably the closest to what you're looking for, but that commute will be crushing. Sugar Land itself isn't a bad option, it's not conservative but not exactly what I'd call liberal. Certain parts of southern Katy may fit the bill as well.

Honestly, wearing a maga cap around these days is going to get you at least a side eye in a lot of places, not just Houston and Dallas.

Here’s the deal: you aren’t going to walk around with a MAGA hat in any major city or it’s suburbs and not get some snide comments or rolling eyes. A MAGA hat would certainly not be very popular in Sugar Land which voted for Biden.

The closest to Sugar Land to what you’re describing is the Woodlands or Kingwood, but the commute would be like commuting to Fort Worth from Frisco.

Is a MATA (make America trill again) good enough? Those were popular here a while back

74 Million people voted for Trump. I think you guys are exaggerating the backlash anyone would get for wearing a MAGA cap. BTW, I see more large Trump 2020 Flags than I do MAGA caps. Even in The Heights which is one of the most liberal neighborhoods in Houston people have large Trump flags...

Based on the OPs options it would make sense to choose Sugar Land. Also depends on the commute you are willing to put up with. Lakes of Fairhaven out in Cypress has large lots and good schools but that’s a trek into downtown or Sugarland.

False equivalence. There is a huge difference between voting for someone anonymously vs. wearing a symbol of a polarizing person that is, rightly or wrongly, equated with bigotry and hate.

It doesn’t exist here. The closest you can get to it is Montgomery County which tends to be conservative, but if you want a newish home, it comes with small lots. There may be some exceptions. I recall an old post in this forum where someone was looking in the north side for a home on a larger lot and Harmony subdivision in Spring, TX fit this.

Sugar Land schools are hyper competitive with Asian students. A conservative pro-Trump friend had her child at Fort Bend Christian Academy instead of Fort Bend ISD. A very old post on this forum tells the story of how his daughter just was not fitting in at a predominantly South Asian, Sullivan Elementary. Ultimately he had to put her in private school.

The Woodlands is the best bet for you, though you may not find large lots. Good luck.

But the woodlands to sugar land commute would be a NIGHTMARE. So if you go the woodlands route, choose downtown as your work location.
