Kind of hard to increase the energy supply when it's natural gas that' sin the wells., and the wellheads freeze up and the gas plants freeze up and the power plants freeze up. It would have taken way more than 2 weeks to be ready for this. There's no magic switch they can flip to make things work in the cold.

Not to mention when the power is out most gas can't be pumped.

TX' electric producers keep thin buffers on hand only - sort of a JIT delivery scheme. Once things thaw a little more gas will move to plants quickly.

It would take years and billions to change the above much.

The last time it got this cold was 1989, the time before that was 1930, and the time before that was 1897. Every year? Stop being dramatic and so over the top with everything.

No one wants to see Texas have these issues. Yet the boast is it is the Greatest in so much and the Big Steal to gain Corporate relocating a huge boast. These events show what minimum infrastructure requirements that were not cause of booming in many decades ago eras.... and having the most lax regulations lead to events that have no safeguards in place for. God forbid another Dust Bowl episode that did effect Northern Texas isn't another even to deal with episode too. Maybe a plague of locust yet. If it is possible..... seems Texas will be prone sadly.
Youre very transparent DavePa.

"steal from the North"

Its the same thing with you every time you post in the Texas forum. Nobody stole anything from you. Tell your representatives and local leaders to try and do more to retain businesses.

What has happened here this week was awful and there were some failures on behalf of ERCOT and the state. There have to be some adjustments, but this over the top disaster cheerleading is ridiculous.

Lest you think stuff like this didnt happen up north, allow me to introduce you to the Storm of the Century in 1993 which is comparable to what were dealing with:

Well I didn't say arctic blast every year.
Different disasters every year.
2015, 2016, 2017 major floods, 2018 freeze, 2019 tropical storm/flooding, 2020 pandemic (I know it's global, but it counts anyway), 2021 arctic blast.

Houston is a Disaster City!

snippage
It got this cold in December of 1983. It was 10 degrees in Katy that time, the Houston area went 91 hours below freezing, and the bays froze hundreds of feet from the shorelines.

I disagree, only because all these events affected large swaths of land - whether its simply the rest of Texas/Southern US, or global like this pandemic. Climate change is known to be affecting the jet stream, so events like this are just a sign of things to come around the whole world.

There can be different points of view.
But simply put, all these disastrous events took place in Houston anyway and that's the fact.

Get around it all you want. People here are laughing at your comment for a reason. Bumped in Covid and an arctic blast of all things. You make a good point. Unlike the northeast and the Great Lakes, Houston freezes every year. If only we had mild winters like chicago
