I've never left outside faucets dripping. Even though officials advise against it I will leave my bathroom sink dripping. My pipes are under the house and my house is on pier and beam so it could get cold under there.

If you have any outdoor fountains, turn them off and drain the water. They could freeze and crack the concrete/plaster.

Outside pipes are covered,
The one you leave dripping is one in the house
The idea is to keep water in the pipelines moving

We're finally experiencing the weather Dallas had all week. Don't look forward to the subzero weather after the weekend.

Exactly 10 years since we had the last deep freeze back in 2011. This one will pale in comparison to the last one. This freeze is bringing comparisons back to Christmas 1989. (Most Houstonians around now were not living here/born yet.)

I watched the videos uploaded to YouTube several years ago. Couldn't believe that it got that cold and thought it could never happen again! We have had abnormally warm winters since 1989 on average.

2011 was a taste of typical Chicago weather. 1989 and 2021 are tastes of a Chicago winter cold front.

Pipes under a pier and beam house are safe. None of the folks I knew in 1983 who lived in pier and beam houses had any issues, and we spent several days below freezing with a low of 11 or 12. Letting your faucets drip contributes to low water pressure for everyone, which is bad if a house catches on fire.

How are the roads out there right now? I may have to drive to Atlanta from Austin this weekend, not 100% sure yet but if I do, its unavoidable. I'm going to take the I-10 route versus the I-20 route because I feel it will be less extreme in terms of the artic-blast.

I remember your other posts.
Seems like your trips always coincide with major storms.
Do you enjoy driving in inclement weather conditions?
It actually seems to be colder in Austin these days...

well, I make frequent trips although this one is more on the spur of the moment if it comes to past so just by chances and odds, some of them will fall under inclement weather or Nuclear Apocolypses, either way a mild drizzle or end of the world, gatta get it done.

And no I hate driving through inclement weather especially in Texas, people don't slow down here when they need to slow down. My car isn't the best in ice, snow, or heavy rain. Usually I pull over and let that stuff pass but in this instance not only would I have to drive to ATL but also be back in Austin before Monday if I do have to go this weekend.

I hope it doesn't get cold in Houston, but if it does, dress and adapt accordingly. My dogs love the outside, but they're staying inside until it at least warms up throughout the day.

If you have pool, leave the pumps running, so hopefully it won't freeze solid

Make sure to drive this weekend then and not late Sunday night/early Monday morning. That's when it supposed to start getting dangerous on the road.
