Trying to decide between Awty and SJS for 9th/10th grade (kids accepted at both). We are coming in from out of state and wondering if one will be an easier social transition than the other. Our kids plan to play sports as well. TIA

SJS. Many people would love to have your kids spots there. Sports is a good way for new kids to become acclimated.

Hi aloharunnergirl,

All of our kids go to Awty and we also know several families whose kids go to SJS. Both schools are great academically. Unique thing about Awty is that they have the IB program which is quite rigorous and highly respected by top universities. Awty is very inclusive. A good number of kids are transplants from the US and abroad and therefore very welcoming. Social peer pressure like any school is there but we feel is WAY less than many of the other private schools in Houston because of the more diverse population economically and culturally.

You can not go wrong with Awty.

Awty also absorbed the French School of Houston, so a portion of the school is specifically designed for French national students who wish to get qualifications in the French educational system. Of course Awty supports US diplomas and IB as well.

Take the SJS spot and don't look back. Hundreds of people would trade places with you in a nanosecond. Look up the National Merit Scholar numbers at SJS versus Awty. If your children are Ivy material, SJS sends more to Ivys. Both are good choices. https://houstonschoolsurvey.com/2020...semifinalists/

You can't compare reported NMSF numbers from Awty, a bona fide Int'l & French school, with traditional American schools. A significant proportion of Awty students do not take American college entrance exams because they have no intention of attending American universities. Awty compares quite well when comparing IB exam scores with other IB schools, worldwide.

Also consider that for a significant proportion of Awty students, English is their second (or third, or fourth) language.

Both are excellent options.

We also got in at both. We went with SJS. We have absolutely zero complaints after 4 years at the school. It's about fit though...both schools are great. Feel free to PM with more questions.

Thanks for your replies! We toured both schools (and one other) and then let our kids decide. They were very impressed with both schools.
