I would say it is it’s own thing. Kind of like Chicago is to Northern or Northeastern Illinois.

First time I’ve ever seen where they put the San Antonio area in Central Texas. Always taught it is South Texas.

San Antonio is used often for both.

I think people are just too quick to place an entire state one place.

Culturally, Chicago and Murphysboro are nothing alike but they are both in Illinois. Same for NYC and Buffalo. So why lump all as one?

Houston is Gulf coast, just like Beaumont or Lafayette.

South Texas is roughly from Corpus Christi to Laredo and points south - roughly.

East Texas is basically from say 50 miles east of I-35 to the LA border, down to where the real Gulf Coast region starts.

And yes, he’s from Port Arthur (actually he’s from Crowley hence his acccent), but don’t act like he didn’t claim Houston as much as he did Port Arthur. And let’s say he did mean Port Arthur, how would it make sense to consider PA South Texas and not Houston? That would just deepen it.

And then there’s the slightly less famous Paul Wall bar “I’m a country boy from South Texas. Better known as the land of trill”. Anyway, it’s not in every song, but referring Houston as South Texas in hip hop has happened here and there.
Are you seriously suggesting that geographical regions depend on a couple lines in a rap track?

Sheesh.

That's just as (in)valid as suggesting that natives of San Antonio like it when people call the place "San Antone" just because Bob Wills used the phrase in a song. (Hint: all the SA natives I've known HATE "San Antone" - it's like saying "Frisco" to someone from San Francisco.)

That would be an interesting concept. There are some Mexican rappers in Dallas that claim both Dallas and Midwest as opposed to the South.

Random Mexican Dallas rappers don't hold the same weight as Pimp C, Paul Wall and others.

And in Dallas, they don't hold the same weight as Dorrough, Big Tuck, etc that rep the south.
