Another year, another Houston music legend. Saying this because Kenny Rodgers died last year. I love my Houston hip hop but we can’t forget the music scene that came first. Everyone who paved the way to bring the music scene to what it is today. I can’t believe I’m just finding out about this.

His passing reminds me of the days when Houston was still a Rock and roll stronghold with all kinds of live venues and terrestrial rock radio stations. Billy Gibbons will carry on but Dusty will be missed.

It still is. That paved the way for the hip hop stronghold. Rock and roll era is behind us you have to hold on to the current trends

On the Houston Reddit board, the stories about Dusty Hill have been a pleasure to read. So many people with anecdotes paint the picture of him being an incredibly nice and down to earth guy.

RIP.
Surprisingly ZZ Top didn't do a lot of shows around Houston lately. I was lucky to see them at the Rodeo 2017, but that was a short concert. That's pretty much the only global level band from Houston.

Those you mentioned are solo artists.

Gotcha. Destiny’s Child for sure is an exception. But no other rock bands I can think of

I went to their show at the Woodlands in 2019.

You mean the hip hop strong hold on weak minds. Hip hop doesn't trend. It has been languishing in the sewer for 30 years and can't go anywhere else or contribute anything remotely considered classic. Yeah I can get a ribald laugh from 2 Live Crew just as with Doug Clark and the Hot Nuts in the early '60's. But I mean multiple popular "artists" (hehe) arrested and convicted for all kinds of mayhem, what other signs do you need. Yeah the classic period of rock is long gone but it at least is widely considered deserving of a category so designated alongside classic R&B.
