But is this even a good thing? The Big 12 was just the face of public shame and doesn’t even feel like a power 5 conference with the exit of their two big schools

Yes of course. Why you ask??

According to SI, the four new teams would not get their full conference distribution shares right away, but their first-year shares will double or triple their currennt $6-7 million annual shares from the AAC.

Supposededly there are 3 other schools joining as well , Cincinati , Central Florida are comming with U of H from the American Athletic Conference , and BYU which is an independent.

IMO If this Conference takes shape as expected, will be a mid tier Conference above where U of H is comming from but for the most part a place holder until one or more of these schools is able to escape to a more powerful Conference. The new matchups this grouping accomodates will be interesting at least for a while.

You’re looking through a football lense, which I realize is all that matters in Texas. But the new conference will be strong in basketball, baseball and other sports. I really wanted UH to get a PAC 12 invite but if I’m objective the BIG 12 makes more sense in terms of travel and natural rivalries.

Right in the short term in a money perspective I see this. But in the long run, I expect the SEC to outshine the Big 12 in bigger ways than ever.

Yes, the SEC outshines every conference in football!

The ACC was once the biggest powerhouse Conference in Basketball with North Carolina and Duke but was never considered a power Conference until Clemson suddenly became a football power. My point is the lens you speak of is a national lens not just this region.

BTW U of H has like 19 National Championships in golf but that never seemed to matter all that much outside the Golf world.

Football brings in like 80% of the revenues. Of course the Big 12 is a step up from the AAC. The AAC will be screwed, though.

As a UH alum this will definitely be an upgrade - and a really sweet basketball conference.

At the same time, if I were the AD, I'm not sure I would order more than 500 business cards with the Big Twelve logo on it. Just sayin'...

Right on Big 12 basketball just became a whole lot more interesting........assuming this all comes to fruition.
