Looks like Houston is not unique in experiencing this phenomenon. NYPD is trying to crack down on fake paper plates being used by criminals by impounding some of the cars. Seems many originated from Texas and Houston.

Shhhhh don’t tell them. Houstonians in this thread like to debunk national trends affecting Houston just like they’re doing in the crime thread.

Even if this is a national trend, so what? That's not an excuse for those crooks to be here in Houston. There's no much hope for the local law enforcement though... they don't seem to pay attention to those crooks.

Shhh folks on here who tend to get their feelings hurt whenever houston is put in a negative light, love to use the “national trend” as a cover.

I was in New Orleans not long ago and noticed they don't have this paper plate problem at all... Instead they just don't use anything. No paper plates, no tags, absolutely nothing, on really generic looking cars & trucks. Seems to be the best way to go if you are a crook, and maybe the local ones here should take notice. Better to hide in the shadows instead of wasting time & money putting something fake on your car (or on your stolen car) that could still be traceable.

The state of Louisiana does issue temporary plates for vehicles. They display them in the back glass, instead of where a license plate normally would go. They do not issue plates for front though.

Unless you're a dealer, you don't.

Just sign (and have the buyer sign) a dated notarized Bill of Sale, and leave your plates on the car. The Bill of Sale will protect you in case the buyer gets into trouble w/the car.

Don't forget to peel off your EZTag / TxTag.
