Nice try at blaming it on the GOP...but in reality....it is a hold over from democrat days.

BTW, Texas actually has 21 casinos right now.

Usually, I think blaming political parties is stupid but in this case, what the heck are you talking about? The Texas Republican Party openly condemns gambling from happening in Texas over and over. Try saying that Texas has 12 casinos yet Houstonians have to Louisiana or Oklahoma for an actual full service casino.

Let's see what that's all about ... uhh look, they say there's 4 casinos in Houston
- Triple crown bingo
- Sam Houston race park
- Post Oak poker club
- Free Rolls poker club

Look at what I found online

Nine accused of multi-million laundering plot at Houston poker clubs - May 2019

The vice operation included the Post Oak Poker Club at 1001 West Loop South, according to a another civil suit. On one occasion, undercover officers found the club bustling with about 100 patrons.
A review of their records found that from August 2017 to September 2018 the owners deposited more than $4 million, some of which was also cash, into a bank account.
Post Oak Poker Club co-owners Daniel Kebort, William Heuer, Alan Chodrow, Kevin Chodrow and Sergio Cabrera were also arrested.
“Poker rooms are illegal in Texas,” District Attorney Kim Ogg said in a written statement. “We are changing the paradigm regarding illegal gambling by moving up the criminal chain and pursuing felony money laundering and engaging in organized crime charges against owners and operators.”
The private clubs have found ways to skirt around the state's gambling laws by not taking a share of the gambled money and charging membership fees. All bettors are supposed to have an equal opportunity of winning.
The investigation followed the 2018 arrests of nearly three dozen people, including three police officers, for alleged illegal gambling operations in Chinatown.
“We can’t allow illegal gambling to go on,” Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said. “It drives organized crime and fuels other criminal activity.”

I don't know this for a fact, but the cynic in me says there's probably a lot of lobbying money from Louisiana and Oklahoma gambling interests to keep gambling illegal in Texas. The parking lot at LDL and the Nugget is probably always 70%+ Texas license plates.

This has already been proven and isn’t a conspiracy. I know personally for Louisiana. And I wouldn’t imagine it be any different for Oklahoma.

Nice try of hanging it on the GOP, but the dems before Abbott would not allow gambling to be legal either. LOL
It's been nearly 30 years since we've had a Dem governor and how long since there's been a Dem majority in the lege? Not sure what they did would reflect what Dem leadership would do today.

Either way, its silly we don't have full service casinos.

Political trolls should keep in mind that LA and OK states are also Republican.
It's just a thing in Texas, why not?
Sort of a tradition.

Dallas is dealing with that now, as Texas Card House Dallas had their certificate of occupancy revoked. They are currently appealing that judgement. The Chickasaw Nation, which operates the Winstar in Thackerville, definitely lobbies for their license to operate to be revoked.

Durant is less impacted, as that casino is still fed by Arkansas and Oklahoma residents. I live about 2 hours and 45 minutes from Durant, while I live about 4 hours from Dallas. The Dallas card rooms directly impact income for Winstar in Thackerville. The games play rather big at the TCH Dallas card room as well.

Oklahoma’s casinos are protected by the federal government. And they have a much larger Native American reservation. And they care less to fight it. Louisiana while Republican isn’t an extremely traditional Republican state. It’s majority catholic and they have a democratic governor (and have had many of them in the past). They’re very different from the traditional Republican governments of Texas.

Traditional Republican being anti gambling is common sense. You’re trying too hard. Fyi being Republican doesn’t mean you’re 100% with what it stands for. Sounds like you’re having a hard time admitting you disagree with one of your preferred party’s politics.

To get regular casinos in TX, we'll have to rely on Mr. Fertitta outspending the OK and LA gambling interests on campaign donations to TX pols. You can bet when he finally succeeds, the first one will be in Galveston.

I don't casinos are a good economic development strategy (mostly low income jobs that don't upskill the workers much), but the tax revenue would be nice. The gambling addicts in TX already have plenty of ways they can hurt themselves, either online, at illegal local venues, or going out of state.
