My son has a job interview close to NASA and I would like some info on safe and affordable apartments close by. What should he expect to pay for a small, one person apartment? His alternative is to commute from Kingwood, which is around 50 miles one way

I know longer live in the area, but if it were me, I would be scouting for an apartment complex maybe outside the Clear Creek schools (which may come at a premium) but relatively close by! Daily commute from Kingwood might be a bit much.

This is just one example I found online - Cedar Bluff Apartments on Red Bluff Road. About 10 miles/20 minutes from NASA.

A quick peek at the reviews sounded OK. Looks like monthly rent starts at $885.

Please pay more attention to the comments shared by those who still live in the area! GOOD LUCK!

I live in the area in League City. I have two kids in the Clear Creek ISD and I've been very pleased. It's considered one of the best in the Houston area. Friendswood (just to the West of I-45) is very good as well, and I think rated even slightly higher than CCISD. But I do see what the above poster is saying, though, maybe just outside CCISD would save you money? Probably, but at the cost of an increased commute and not as nice an area.

I have no experience with apartment living, but I frequent businesses and retail near the JSC and am familiar with the area. A place called The Caroline is an example of a high end complex right next door to NASA: Looks like 1 bedrooms start around $1,400. If you google for apartment locaters and look at some other examples (which I did only briefly), you will see similar prices. That gives you an idea of top price point. I think you can find something in Seabrook for around $1,000 for a 1 bedroom.

You could get an apartment for significantly less money by going south of the Lake and looking in League City, lots of NASA employees live here. Again, though, I'm not familiar with complex names off the top of my head. I think you can find a 1 bedroom here in a really nice complex for around $1,000, then cast a wider net of you want to spend less.

Generally, I would say look for properties East of I-45 (and ideally East of Hwy 3) and South of El Dorado (or even Bay Area Blvd). Addresses in Nassau Bay, El Lago and Seabrook are closest to NASA and those are the nicest areas, in order, IMO. Addresses in League City will be South of the Lake. Be careful about Webster addresses, only because Webster borders I-45 and the areas between I-45 and Hwy 3 are not the best.

Thank you Texas Ag 93. We appreciate all the information and details, it's very helpful since we don't know a whole lot about that part of Houston. It's good to know what areas to stay away from too. Thanks again!

There are brand new apartments behind (East) of Baybrook Mall just off Bay Area near that Lifetime Fitness. I'm not sure of the cost but they are brand spanking new.

There is a nice complex south of the Lake at Marina Bay and Southshore.

I would avoid any complete on El Dorado between CLC Blvd and Bay Area. I don't care how the pictures look. Also about the ones in Nassau Bay right near the water near that church. Those places are filled with drug addicks. I made a few DD deliveries there. Never again.

I think some of those complexes are on, or adjacent, to Clear Creek, in which case, flooding could be an issue. One thing I'll note about living south of the Lake, at peak commuting times, it's not unusual for the drive to NASA to be close to 20 minutes due to traffic. Even though, as the crow flies, you're only 2 miles away......that said, living south of the Lake does not deter people who are NASA employees, as I mentioned earlier, plenty of them live in League City. Just something to think about.

I wouldn’t do Red Bluff. What kind of budget - that will help us recommend complexes?
