Any thoughts on the quality and service of Plantation Homes? We're considering this builder along with David Weekley. I assume DW is the better builder but we would be making a mistake going with Plantation if they were more affordable? All views would be appreciated. Thanks!

DW is the better builder. If you want a cheaper looking home for a cheaper price go with Plantation.

I have to disagree. I think Plantation homes are extremely nice and better built. They are a local builder, too...only in Texas. If you are choosing between a Plantation and a DW, in the same subdivision, in the same series, with similar finish out...I'd go with Plantation.

In my opinion, don't do it. I know nothing of DW, but I have a plantation. We are in the process of painting and cleaning up to sell.

We went with plantation homes because they worked with us to alter the garage and other minor interior details. Our house was finished in May 2006 and we had to have them replace part of a wall in a bedroom by Jan 07 because of mold growing on a bedroom wall where it meets the window. I am very disappointed with the quality of the materials used. I know that a house does settle, but there are SEVERAL cracks in baseboards, walls, etc. that seem to be excessive. Our grout in the kitchen backsplash is cracked and flaking off. The windows are very poor quality. Some of the outlets are crooked. It is also our own fault, but nothing matches. We let them put in all the standard light fixtures (antique brass), door handles (brushed nickel), faucet knobs (chrome), etc, without thinking twice and none of them match. It looks awful. If I hadn't been 8 mos. pregnant and desperate for a house, we would not have bought it. Our contractor left shortly after building our house... and THREE more have come and gone since.

Good luck with your decision!

With the recent Hurricane and various amounts of damage to friends home - what I have found is that any builder can build a bad home or two. Alot seems to depend upon whatever workcrew did your home. There may be a couple of homes in every neighborhood that once the sheetrock is cut out of walls and ceilings, the flaws are exposed. Two friends have been told that their homes are unsafe to live in due to faulty building.
