I'm new to the forum and thought I would say hi!

My fiancee and I just bought our (not my) first home together.

It's located in the subdivision of Parkwest over on the SW side. We got it for a steal (I think so anyway). The previous owner was foreclosed on and we ended up getting it for 130,000.00

Anyway, Just wanted to say hi and say that I love this website. Thanks to some of the posts in here I felt a lot better about buying a house in this area.

Thanks again!

Tyler and Desirae

That is where my first house was! It is a very nice neighborhood, and I think you will enjoy it. I bought in '98 for only $100k and sold in '01 to "move up" to Willow Meadows. The values in the area have gone up and up, and your price is amazing. A little money in renovation and you will have a lot of equity.

PS, if you didn't buy flood insurance, you should. It doesn't have a strong history of flooding, but there are pockets that can get high water during intense storms, and these houses are pretty close to the ground.

I love that about central Houston. Put in a little work on one and you can move up a whole level on the next.

Where is that neighborhood, approximately by cross streets?

My wife and I also bought our first house together (not my first house, bought one as a single person at age 25), and we spent 125k, but got more space than we need so hopefully it will last us a long time.

Ohh, ok, I'm not familiar with the area. I think I've driven that part of Hilcroft a total of one time when I was looking for Butler stadium What's the area like?

the Parkwest name isn't well known because it is part of the Westbury Civic Club. Pricewise, it is generally higher than any section of Westbury, but lower than Maplewood South/Marilyn Estates, and probably on par with Willowbend, though the houses are more 1960's than 50's. It has (or at least had) stronger deed restrictions than the rest of Westbury, which probably adds to its appeal.

The overall boundaries are generally Willowbend Blvd on the north, W Bellfort on the south, Atwell on the east, and Hillcroft on the west, though I think Parkwest 3 bleeds over west of Hillcroft a bit and has smaller homes on that side. You can do a search in HAR for "Parkwest" in zip 77096 and see what's out there.
