Apparently it takes a good 3 feet of snow to close school up there. I guess down here it just takes a light dusting?
That is because it happens so rarely here that people here simply do not know how to drive and snow and ice and become a danger on the roads - to themselves and others. This includes the ones who are certain that they know how to drive in these conditions and that everyone else is just stupid.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Although I remember seeing the forecasts on the morning of Christmas Eve '04 when it was calling for "rain with possible snow" or something along those lines. We got something quite different.

Umm...maybe we might see a flurry or two if we look close?? Seriously, that's about it. I've lived here since the 70's and can count on one hand the number of times I've seen snow.

It snowed three days before Christmas in 1989, and once a couple years before that.

I just saw the forecast on Channel 13, snow was not mentioned, just possible light sleet in the early hours, but snow would be nice.

Let's see...I remember '73 (pictures), '83 (bitter cold no snow), '89 (pictures), '90 (ice storm), and 2004 Christmas snow. I believe there was another ice storm or 2 in there somewhere. I also remember the mini-blizzard (at least in Texas terms) in '77 in NE Texas with about 2 feet of blowing snow. That one was really nasty as we were visiting my ill grandfather in UT Tyler hospital and had to drive back to Marshall during the storm I-20 was scary and the side roads were just about impassable, no power for a week.
