it depends a lot on where you are in the city (old neighborhood=old pipes=distasteful water)

Get an RO system and drink from that. Saves a lot of money in the long run over bottled water, not to mention the environmental benefit.

As someone else here said, most of the lower priced/generic bottled water is just Houston (or other municipality) tap water that has been run through an industrial sized RO filter.

I have used Brita since it came out, but more recently I just refill my Ozarka bottles (very convenient for the car) with plain old Houston tap water and it's fine. I drink it straight out of the fridge door spout (and my fridge doesn't have a filter) and it's fine. No reason to buy water (other than to occasionally replace the stock of plastic bottles).

yes, but thank the good Lord she took the time to post this information... consider it a public service announcement.....i didn't know they were putting snake poison in the tap water. Did you? ...didn't think so. Now we know. It's a good thing to know stuff like this.

I wouldn't drink it straight out of the tap unfiltered. We bought a reverse osmosis system for under our kitchen sink and it gets rid of just about everything disgusting that could be in the water (except maybe radiation). We paid about $500 for the unit and installation.

By the way, regular carbon-type filters (such as your fridge filter, Brita, Pur, etc) do not remove bacteria and most contaminants. Those types of filters only remove things that make the water taste bad, but it doesn't mean the water will be safe after using that type of filter.

I drink from the tap because I like the flavor of snake poison. Never had worms either.

The chloramine treatment that is now in the water (since 2nd quarter 2010 or so in most places) is killing my grass. I like the taste too, but it's unnerving when the tap water kills the lawn.
