Where could I purchase a wooden playyard or swingset for my backyard? Can you recommend any reputable companies in the Houston area that build residential wooden swingsets? Also, tell me what companies to avoid.

Thanks In Advance!

There is a place called Kid Structures off the Sam Houston Tollway near Clay road. Their stuff looks really appealing. I intend to go check it out for my son.

We bought ours at Toys R Us...by far the best value for the money. It was about a thousand bucks and it's really nice...maybe not quite as nice as a Rainbow set but just as functional and half the price. I climb up in it all the time and feel secure. It had rave reviews online too. It did take awhile to put together though...a couple long days over Christmas break.

Academy had some smaller ones too, but my kids are very tall for their age and I wanted some extra height so they would not outgrow it too quickly.

We purchased a set from WalMart a little over a year ago. It was the $450 one I think. It actually received better reviews than the Toys R Us ones at the time and after two hurricanes it is still standing. We currently live in Baton Rouge and are heading back to NE Houston. We will be purchasing a new one when we arrive and we are very interested in the one at Sams but I know Costco usually has a really nice one this time of year.

I would save your money and NOT buy a swingset made by Rainbow which is sold by Kid structures. We bought one about 6 years ago and was told about a lifetime warranty, how well the redwood holds up...blah, blah, blah. That was all salesman hype. We have maintained the playfort/swings over the years...power washing it, re-staining it, tightening up the bolts..etc...however, it has not lasted given the amount of babying we do to it. We are very disappointed! It was quite pricey and we thought we were buying quality with wood that did not have bad chemicals in it and would stand up over many years. The wood is behaving like pine...crumbling and falling off the structure.

Save your money, and buy from a store that carries a cedar play structure. Even if you have to replace it in 5-6 years you are still coming away MUCH, MUCH cheaper than buying it through a Rainbow dealer.

Our WM here in Baton Rouge actually is now selling a Rainbow for $999. When we went over to look at it honestly it did not look any nicer than the one we purchased for $430 or whatever it was. The wood was exactly the same.

Not sure if the link is allowed but here is the one we purchased from WM. Leave abt 13 hrs for assembly with help from kiddos. Now without the additional assistance I would say probably 12 hours with two adults.

Walmart.com: Adventure Play Sets Pathfinder Wooden Swing Set: Outdoor Play

If the link is removed just go to WM website and punch in swing sets. It is the $399 one with like 758 reviews or something.
