You can keep Florida. Give me a cowboy hat a pair of boots and call me Tex. After you live in Texas a little while you "get it". There is a reason why people love Texas.

Speak for yourself there Big Dirty, with all due respect. Houston is for city folks. Trust me, countryside FL has tons of cowboys too.

I know this is sort of off topic, but I too am moving from South Florida to Texas (Austin). Did you use professional movers for your move? If so, have a good recommendation for a reputable moving company? Thank you!

I'm sure people from Louisiana in general move to Houston in droves.

Its a two headed tale. If you look at the stats things look ok. But if you drive around I notice in Austin theres a lot of empty buildings and places for lease that used to be occupied. One of the big malls just shut down. Some neighborhoods seem to be in real trouble whereas they never used to be with unkempt lawns and lots of for sale signs.
On the other hand near downtown theres a lot of high end stuff that seems to be doing well.

Lots of cash flowing around Austin though and lots of 'cash only' real estate deals that seem to originate from Mexico if you know what I mean *cough*.

So, what is your point? BTW, I've met a couple of chefs and sous chefs that moved here in or during the hurricane and the already high quality of restaurant cooking has gone up even more.

Add one more - we are moving to north Houston from Kansas City! Better economy, less winter, more house for the money.
