My wife and I are considering moving from Boston to accept job offers in Cinco Ranch and the Houston med center, respectively. We were considering living in Cinco Ranch (with our two young children), which would require me to tackle the commute. I would leave for work early most days but am concerned about the afternoon commute back to Cinco Ranch. Can someone provide me with estimated commute times between Cinco Ranch and the med center, say via the Westpark Tollway or I10?

I wanna say about 75 minutes on 1-10. 610 is bad and then you go on 59. I don't know about Wespark. Don't use Wespark.

I would take 10 all the way thru town then meet up with 59 to 288 avoiding the 610 galleria mess. Probably still and hour or more during peak. Westpark gets really crowded during peak times plus the added costs.(what $8 per day?) I would assume an hour taking it to 59 then exit Main to med center.

Wow, not sure that I can stay in a car for that long. Are there any communities between Cinco Ranch and the med center that 1) would afford my wife a decent (15 min?) commute into Cinco Ranch, 2) shorten my commute into the med center (30-40 min?) and 3) provide good schools for our young children. Price range <500K.

Thanks for your help.

I live in the CR area and commute to the Museum District which is just a bit north of the Med Center, maybe 5-10 minutes. I take I-10 and pay the tolls and am usually at my office withing 35-40 minutes, sometimes a bit longer depending on traffic crashes and vehciles that are disabled. Most of the time, it's a relatively short drive time compared to what it used to be. Prior to the toll lanes, I would spend a minimum of an hour on a good day up to an hour and a half with some sort of traffic incident.

Coming home, I take 59 to the Westpark Tollroad and am home within 40 minutes leaving at around 4:30 ish.

Take the Park n Ride from Kinglsand Park and Ride. It is by far the best way to commute from Katy. I think that it only stops at the Northwest Transit Center Or take any Park n Ride to Downtown, then pick up the train. (My husband commutes to the north side of Downtown (right by the Downtown Transit Center) and his commute is about 40 min. He uses the Grand Parkway Park n- ride)

I really wish people who did not live in Cinco Ranch did not answer questions like this. Over an hour? Only if there is a big wreck. Like the poster said WHO ACTUALLY MAKES THE COMMUTE, you're lookin' at 45-55 min on most days I think. Also depends a little big on where in Cinco you live, how close to 99 and/or Westpark. My husband takes I-10 into the Galleria and takes Westpark home, about 35-40 minutes each way. Med center is just a bit further.

Also my next door neighbor works at Rice, which borders the med center, and there's no way she's in the car over an hour every day. (Again, we LIVE in Cinco) Just because you think Katy is in the boondocks doesn't mean that's reality.

BTW during offpeak hours I fly in and out of the Med center/Museum district...25-35 minutes.

I had to make that drive from Katy for a few month and that was no walk in the park. I would say at least an Hour both ways

If you're not taking the toll road or you're not carpooling, there are times when it can take an hour, however it's not the norm. Believe me, I've lived in Katy for 12 years and have made this commute for 12 years. It was really bad for a while before the widening of I-10 and the addition of the toll roads. I don't care for paying tolls, but it sure saves a lot of time.

I typically leave between 7:00 and 7:30 and am in my chair in my office within 40-45 minutes.
