Most hunting around Houston will be limited to shooting cockroaches and rats. But hey, if that's what you're into...

If you want to encounter actual wildlife, you would have to head deep into the recesses of backwoods Texas. Based on the hillbilly mentality of many in "the boonies" though, you're more likely to end up being the target. Just make sure to wear a bright flourescent orange jacket, with flashing LEDs. That should reduce your risks.

There are some nice and affordable leases in deep east Texas. Newton, Jasper, Sabine, Tyler counties etc.

I've been on several leases out there and never had a bad encounter with a fellow hunter. they were always good people. Sunderpig is bigot that has never actually experienced the backwoods except via Hollywood. If he can show me one incident of a hunter shooting another on a lease because one was a hillbilly I'll reject my statement.

search southeasttexas.com classifieds(Similar to craigslist) for a lease.
also check the east texas peddler(similar to greensheet) Welcome to Peddlernet.com

I see ads on these 2 places all the time of leases needing members.
You could also place an ad seeking a lease.

can be found between $500 -$1000 annual.

that last few years of my lease I never even hunted, I just went in the off season to camp, target practice, ride atv's, swim in the creek, and get a break from the city.
