There's a section on bay area volunteer opportunities that list things (and contacts) for the clear lake area. There is also a section on holiday volunteer opportunities.
You could always go downtown Thursday, there are a couple of big all day events that need volunteers: the superfeast at City Hall and one at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
Not sure if you have any reservations about helping a religious charity, but there is also the interfaith caring ministries which does meals on wheels and other things in the clear lake area:
