Marshall is looking to start a new School of Aviation. Surprising though that they are looking at partnering with Yeager rather than Tri-State. It would be interesting to see what the benefit is there vs here.

I was surprised as well. You would think that even if Yeager has some advantages over Tri-State (which in this case I don't necessarily see) that Marshall would be willing to work with Tri-state in order to match anything that Yeager can offer. It would be in both parties interests to work it out to where the program could be run out of Huntington. Maybe the National Guard has something to do with the decision, or possibly the access to the private/corporate hangers in Chucktown.
Well, we'll see what they have to say next year. The article says that the presence of both the Guard and the private air facilities were part of the decision to do the study. Remember, too, that Marshall already has a presence in the Charleston area, although it is with the Graduate School in South Charleston. There could be some admin functions work from the Grad School, I suppose.
Barely related but does any of Huntington's airfields have an airshow that I can wear my leather flight helmet and eat a corn dog as i walk around WW2 planes

There was one in Charleston last September. It was totally awesome to watch the sky the day they had all the airplanes in the air flying circles around the city. It was such a success that there was talk about doing another. Watch the news.

Looks like Marshall would gain about 2.6% in its budget with the upcoming HEPC changes to the funding formula. That equates to somewhere around $1.5 million more.
Quote:
Marshall would receive a base budget of $56,389,894, which is 2.6 percent more. This does not factor in the $3.4 million in special-purpose funding Marshall receives from the state for programs like the Luke Lee Learning Lab and the Autism Training Center.
