Hubby and I are thinking of moving to the area of Huntington/Barboursville. One of the things I am trying to find out about are the different taxes there.

Is there a income tax on a family's income? What is the percentage of property taxes?
What are the taxes within the city, city taxes, floodwall taxes, car tags costs, how are they determined?

Sad to say that I live on the border of Ohio and WV and hubby was born in WV and worked there for 40 some years, but we stayed in Oh to be close to my parents, they had health problems and needed our help and they thought a lot of my hubby. They have died and we no longer feel we need to stay here. We are tired of the high property taxes (10 percent and going to go up to 12% next year). Cost of electric is high and although the people here in the village are nice, we want a more country setting.

Since he will be retired and we are senior citizens, we don't have to worry about location, schools for kids or driving to work. It will be approx. 6-8 months before we can move.
We are checking into buying land and putting a modular home on the property over buying a house. I will need to find the cost of putting in sewage and water lines in, also the cost of septic tank if we need to install that. Due to shoulder injuries, he won't be able to do a lot of repairing to an home that may need some slight work on it.

The people in that area are nice, friendly and welcoming.

We had considered moving out west, as I have family there, but the lack of water is a concern and the prices of houses has gone up due to all the people moving to CO, WY and Utah.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.
