Hopefully the bid is strong enough to get the contract. There is a ton of travel money that comes to the area hosting the state tournament. Definitely a big boost for the local economy.

It would be interesting to see the details of the proposal, especially since the contracts are normally for 3 years. Would they split the different games? Would they rotate the games on a 2/1 split which would then alternate the next bid session? I think the presentations are this week with the decision by the end of the month so I'm sure we'll hear more soon.

While it is exciting, lets not overblow what this is. The Super 6 will soon expand and include 8 teams total in 4 classes of championship games. A lot of the casual fans will travel up and back in 1 day. Some fans will stay overnight in hotels, including the 8 teams of course.
But this won't fill nearly as many hotels or restaurants than other sporting events such the US Youth Soccer events held annually in Barboursville & Dunbar. The WVSSAC Basketball tournament is now a 5 day event, and includes 24 schools. Travel basketball tournaments in the area sometimes bring in as many as 50+ teams to Charleston, Huntington, Bridgeport, and Wheeling on a regular basis. With usually 10-20% of those teams coming from out of state or out of the area. Travel baseball is the same, bigger, more teams, more money. The State Football Championships will be a nice weekend boost for whoever lands the event, but it will not be some economic savior for any of the contending cities.

Well, yea. A single day event is not won't generate as much as a multi day event. But, any event bring 1,000s of people from out of town to Huntington is going to have an impact. This, of course, is not meant to be some economic savior but it certainly is a nice economic boost.
I think the biggest plus would be to bring people from other parts of the state to Huntington and help them to see the strides made in the city and to help recruit more students to Marshall. Too often in our state, people know nothing about a city other than what they've heard or seen in the news and they form negative opinions based solely on that. Not to mention that rotating between Huntington and Morgantown would help to ensure that the length of the trip may change for those involved and give those athletes a chance to play on a D1 field. Reading an article in the paper this morning, it sounds like there's an option for a 4th year for those that win the bid. I would imagine this would be part of the plan to allow an equal rotation between the cities.
