Hello! I am from Dallas in my 30's, a triathlete and tennis player and trying to figure out where to live in AL. I have a choice and have heard that Huntsville is better than Bham culturally and for singles. Where do you recommend living? Is Huntsville a better choice?

If you like Dallas as much as I do, you are not going to like Huntsville.
I think the best area to live for you would be around Research Park.

Huntsville is a medium size city and could not compare to Dallas. Single nightlife is lacking in H'ville too. We see a lot of complaints on here because this city is more of a family area. There are just not a lot of places for singles to hang out. You can check out meetup.com for single groups and see what is out there. Remember H'ville is in the middle of the bible belt too.

B'ham is much larger and would probably be a better comparison to Dallas. You might want to ask on that forum about single living.

"Huntsville is better than Bham culturally and for singles" WHAT!?

For singles I will say emphatically hell no Huntsville is not a better choice than Bham not sure where you heard that from. There's really no comparison between Dallas or Birmingham either Dallas metro is even larger than Atlanta. Are you in the engineering field? If not what field are you in? I think that should be a major factor in determining your decision Huntsville's job market is primarily focused around engineering, software, defense and aerospace industries.

True... we are very family oriented around here.

To the OP, you will be fine. Huntsville may not be the most fun city, but sure ain't most boring. It all boils down to what type of clubs and fun you are interested in. Huntsville can be a hip hop city at times, and it can be a country music city. You can find something to do in Huntsville. Just get out and do something. It's there. When people tell transplants that Huntsville is boring, it gets imbedded into them making it seem more boring to them.

Maybe if you don't mind hanging out with college kids but most single adults over 30 are not looking for a hip hop club.. Someone coming from a place like Dallas is use to having a mass selection of clubs not one or two.

It is hard to meet other singles too since most folks make friends through work and most of them are married with kids. Of course if you are brave you can hang out with HB2HSV.

I hate to say it, but I'd choose B'ham as well. I've sold several "younger" singles homes and they are not happy with the night life here, at all.

You could always join HB2HSV at the nudie Ranch in Madison. LOL.
