Just wondering. They were doing a lot of work over there but it looks like they stopped.

other than the 24/7 gym its hard to say. The 10 year late overpass project is probably doing a wonderful job of killing any progress over Chapman Mountain. Thanks ALDOT!
If they started today it would take 5 years, a big hinderance in Huntsville progress is it's ancient 1960's road system.

I agree with you there.

It is frustrating to see all of the development west of the city in Madison. They have all kinds of shopping centers, Targets, etc. All I want closer to my home is for the shopping center to be built at the bottom of Chapman. It would be more convenient to go there than to have to drive to Jones Valley.

Chase Creek Town Center (at the intersection of Shields Road and Hwy 72 East) has changed a lot over the last year. A new apartment complex named The Dean will open in January and a new RaceTrac gas station will open this month. Ground breaking has also started for another business.

I wondered if anyone from this old thread (that was started over a decade ago) was still here.

The growth in the Huntsville area is west. Amazon, new Mazda/Toyota plant, warehouses, all the places where people work is usually the side of town most live. After industry is housing, then finally retail. Every restaurant, hotel, shopping, is in the west. Limestone county has doubled in a short amount of time.

If there was industry (plants, warehouse) being built on 72E, then other developers would follow.

Primarily, as AU has said, the east side is much less accessible than the west side. I seem to remember that a couple of years some sort of large industrial project was in the works on the east side, and the land owners squashed that. Presumably they jointly decided not to sell. There's still a fair amount of development out that way beyond the end of 565, but nothing like to the west. There's little doubt that extending 565 to the east like was in the works many years ago would have enabled more things out that way. But ALDOT doesn't like this part of Alabama. You'd think they would since this is a very large tax base for them.

Proximity is super close to Huntsville and practically speaking, doesn’t make sense. You could make three round trips to/from Huntsville vs one trip to Airport. But the availability of land, buyers, and Huntsville annexation is pushing west.
