My new home has way too many enormous pine trees too close to the house for my comfort. I have about 6-10 very large girth and very tall trees that I would like to have taken out. I am sure there is some great heartwood in those trees. Does anyone have any insight into how to go about getting them removed? Any recommendations or personal experience with a tree removal service? Would it be possible that someone would want them for milling?

You possibly could have written into the sales contract the removal of large pines. If you're in a residential neighborhood no one will come get 8', 10' whatever length logs for lumber. There's no place to park all the large equipment they have, no room to work & sometimes overhead lines (power, cable, phone). They're also afraid of when milling hitting a nail & ruining a $5,000 blade. (I have tried to give logs away before) In addition, this moving of large equipment is regulated by the DOT (Feds) & when they found out the logs were in Madison County, they said they would not enter Madison County. (It didn't make sense to me either) When you say large girth, what is large to you? I do tree removal & stump grinding in North AL., & Southern TN. Can you tell me the diameter or the circumference of the trees? With that information I can tell you if it's best to call a large tree service or a smaller company. Ben 256-656-4854

Just an FYI Sharon, Ben is a personal friend of mine and has done work for me and my parents. Ben and I worked together for many years and you won't find a more honest and reliable person to work for you. And he is very reasonably priced

Now see that makes me feel better.

It's always strange when a one poster comes in and says something like that.

It was very nice of you to come on here and back him up.

I have a tree that will need to be taken down in the future, I can't afford it over the other house renovations now, but will in the coming year. I will save Bens number.

I think they look enormous to me, but maybe they aren't really so big. Probably 24-30 inches at most in diameter and then some are much thinner, just very tall. Definitely not something I could handle on my own and we are DIY'ers when we can be. Thanks for the help I appreciate it.

I've had several jobs done by Charlie from Best Affordable tree Service (BATS) , super nice guy and does a great job and a good price. at my first home he removed over 50 pine trees and got me some cash for the lumber. Good man , highly recommend him.

Pines - most people want to burn hardwood, so it may not be possible to sell them.
We've used Jones Tree Service out of Hartselle. I found them to be punctual, professional, and do good work. They also leave it clean.
Whoever you use, make sure they're insured.

I'm new to this forum & didn't know you answered. I'm so sorry. 24 to 30 inches in diameter is a good large pine tree. You don't mean circumference do you? If you are DIY then would you want a quote on taking the trees down then you cutting & cleaning up? Typically the labor to clean up & dispose is the same price as taking the tree down. So if it cost X to take the trees down, to clean up & dispose would cost X also....so you would be saving roughly 1/2 the cost. Either you'll have to tell me how many trees at what size diameters or I will need to look at them. ben 256-656-4854
