House is on the market in Monrovia. It currently has 12+ year old kitchen counter laminate, which still looks close to new, but my agent is suggesting granite.

So...who would you recommend or avoid? How about Lowes or Home Depot?

try calling Style in Stone. They are in Toney, and do a lot of the rock cutting for other contractors. Plus they have a huge amount of partial slabs for really good deals.

I had very nice marble installed on a bathroom vanity, picked from a partial slab, for $42 sq ft.

Why in the world would you replace something that still looks good just because an agent thinks there should be granite?
I would leave the home as it is and let the buyer replace the kitchen counter if they want to.

We used Towne Granite in Madison. Got several quotes and they beat everyone. Did our backsplash as well, and we were super happy with everyone involved

Would not recommend using partial slabs for kitchen countertops.....when you start piecing slabs together it typically looks awful and many times the slabs may have big variations in colors. Partial slabs are perfect for bathrooms!

I agree as well, unless it is going to be monetarily beneficial to you. Do other houses in the hood have granite?

Yeah, if the surrounding homes are selling with Granite, it just makes sense.

I can't imagine an agent would recommend that if the surrounding area didn't already have them.

I mean most homes in Madison City already do...

But that still depends on the age and area.

I would install them before I tried to sell.

I'm on the fence about it. The home is in Monrovia, 12 year old subdivision, so I'd guess that most of my neighbors don't have granite. But, most of my competition in the area, at least the newer homes in the $200K+ range, seem to have granite.

I would ask our Realtor, LCTMadison's profesdional opinion regarding the granite

Personally, I will ask myself this question: what features are the buyers looking for in a home? If my home does not have them, will this hurt the chance of receiving that initial offer before we even begin to negotiate on the final price, or will perspective buyers simply walk away?
