Looking to relocate to Huntsville and was wondering where the best/reasonable areas are to live.

Do they have ranch style duplexes there?

Thanks,

Gary

I'd say rent first (always a good idea) for the first year.

And it depends on what you're looking for.

There are some ranch style duplexes off Four Mile Post road across from the park near the Carmike. Also of that same ilk, but not duplexes, at the bend where Bailey Cove turns into Green Cove there are some patio homes.

There are others, but I only remember the stuff that interests me.

If I was moving to Huntsville, I'd probably move into the Belk apartments downtown.

Ok thanks.

I'm not buying a home for awhile.

I'm single, no pets. I don't do well with stairs or people living above me.

Since there hasn't been much reply to this thread yet I will post!

I am not sure what your price range is or what area of Huntsville you would prefer to be in but there are a couple brand new ranch style or one level rental homes in the Huntsville/Madison area that I am aware of that I think are pretty nice.

There is a new development off of Martin Road in Southwest Huntsville called "The Villas at Nature Walk" and "The Villas" are ranch style, one level apartments. I have not seen the inside of the units but I live in the development right across the road so I drive by and in front of this new apartment development daily, it's very nice: http://www.thevillasatnaturewalk.com Some of the units also have attached two car garages and each unit has two designated/ assigned parking spaces outside close to the front door. There is also a community pool and gym as well as other amenities in the clubhouse.

"Winter Homes LLC" http://www.builtbywinterhomes.com is also currently building ranch style townhome rentals in Winter Park Village/Southern Charm Village off of Browns Ferry Road in Limestone County not terribly far out of the city limits of Madison. They are all 2 bedroom, 2 bath with a one car garage for $900.00 per month: http://clintnewton.valleymls.com/rentals/AL/Madison/35756/12129-Southern-Charm-Blvd-130265520 If you click that link you can see some are finished and move-in ready (like the one in that listing) and they still have some others that are still under construction right now. Again, this is in Limestone County so it's not as convenient but it is nice in my opinion.

I like the two I've mentioned above because they are all on one level and because they are brand new (which is good for rentals because the units will be extremely clean and not have had a bunch of different tenants move in and out so many times, that could be the case in an older apartment).

There is also a one level apartment community in the City of Madison called "Abby Glen, A Quiet Cove" which is a well landscaped apartment complex and has a pool/clubhouse/gym: http://www.abbyglennapartments.com All of these apartments in Abby Glen are all one bedroom, one bath and do not have attached garages but it's still nice in my opinion because the complex is very well landscaped and well maintained.

You can also search for home rentals on http://www.valleymls.com and I think http://www.apartmentguide.com is great for apartments. There is also http://www.apartmentfinder.com/ and others.

I would also consider Decatur. Very reasonable and nice in SOME areas.

Well, Decatur is facing hard times, but it's no Moulton.

I'm curious how this next year is going to go with them having their municipal budget about $2m lower than what they need.

I've rented one of the new townhomes in Winter Park Village off of Browns Ferry Road and am happy here so far. The location is peaceful and quiet and the prices are reasonable for what you get which includes two large bedrooms, two bathrooms, garage, covered back porch, nicely finished out interior, and sodded grounds outside with sprinkler systems. I hope to enjoy living here for the next couple years.

If you have ever lived there for any length of time you would know. Buying is one thing in Decatur, but renting is another. The nicest apartments in Decatur are the Wheeler Estates apartments. I would avoid Decatur if I could.

I turned down the job offer. Pay cut plus no relocation was going to be too costly. If I'm going to shell out several grand, I'm going to move where I want to go.

Thanks for the replies.
