Since the AMC Classic 10 has closed, wouldn't be surprised if that building goes soon.

These type of "hotels" are becoming more common

A hospitality brand based in Witchita, Kan. has broken ground on a new 126-room, long- and short-term hotel concept for Huntsville.

WaterWalk is scheduled to open a location at 1550 Perimeter Pkwy. N.W., at the intersection of Research Park Blvd. S.W. and University Drive, in the fall of 2023, according to the company.

A flexible accommodations brand, Waterwalk offers long-term Live units, which are unfurnished and can be customized, and Stay units, for short-term stays. The company’s concept caters in part to evolving market trends, such as “untethered workers” without home ownership or family obligations.

I spent a night earlier this week at the newish AC hotel downtown. I was impressed, it was very nice and the staff was great. The free parking was also attractive as all of the other downtown hotels charge. (I don't count the Homewood or Springhill as being really downtown.) The AC seems to be using the old swim center parking lot as overflow parking at this time.

I have also recently stayed at the new Curio and Hampton. The Curio is pretty elegant and maybe the most uptown hotel in town. It doesn't even look like a hotel from the outside. But the only parking is valet and I think it's $24 per night.

The new Hampton is a very nice Hampton. I stayed there just a few days after opening and everything was new and shiny. I was puzzled as to why it wasn't designed to provide views of the park. Then I realized that the new Marriott that will replace part of the parking garage will be a tall structure that would block any park views. That will be an "Autograph" hotel.

And I think also a Hyatt House is planned, which would be a nine story hotel. That was announced three years ago and I don't think it is yet under construction. That will be located at Jefferson and Holmes.

So the score is one previously existing downtown hotel (Embassy Suites), three newer hotels, and two yet to be constructed. Now the VBC needs to book enough events to fill all of those rooms!

edit: This article has a map showing the proposed location of the Autograph hotel:

The Springhill and Homewood are as downtown as any of the others along with the Twickenham Square and Constellation developments

Huntsville had over 3.7 million visitors last year, filling hotel rooms is not an issue, having enough is which is being addressed albeit slowly due to Covid and supply chain .
The overflow parking for the AC will soon be an apartment complex with several retail spaces.

I should rephrase that, 100,000 tickets have been sold since ticket sales began which was last year. The venue has been open for two months.
