The standard operating procedure for aldot when it comes to road projects anywhere north
of the Tennessee River and especially the Huntsville metro is stall, delay, under design or just not do it.
Currently the long planned I-565/Zierdt Rd project is at a standstill. Yes they started but that is part of the plan start then delay a year or claim some excuse but lately its just we aren't going to work on it till we get ready. Remember how long it took to do the County Line interchange?
Zierdt road expansion ...wow just wow, is this a 10 year project, most likely.
South Parkway Martin Rd/Lily Flagg interchange, yes they are working furiously on it and it is claimed to be ahead of schedule. Does anyone question the design of the Martin Rd portion? It may be best but they took away the controlled access (no stop lights) and have now created a stop light intersection. Why not make a
smooth flowing overpass from the controlled access Martin Rd to the controlled access Parkway?
Mastin Lake overpass, no sign of progress probably will be delayed
Controlled access Research Park/Bob Wade to North Parkway, property condemnation has just begun, this is usually a long process, u can bet that the interchange with North Parkway will also be a primitive stop light design.
Moores Mill/Shields road overpasses. These were supposedly funded planned ready to go simple overpasses, aldot didn't want to build them and wont until 10 years from now, (wait till they will be underdesigned to handle traffic or lack of funding).
Bare minimum or lack thereof proper, correct wayfinding signs, poor lighting.
University drive widening, already 5 years late no sign of starting.
Only projects that have been done recently are those the city funded (50%) with the restore our roads program. If the city had not done this we would still be waiting. aldots response...suckers!
aldots mindset is Huntsville your economy is pretty healthy you don't need anything from us plus we hate that you have succeeded even with our economic sanctions.

I do know property buying and assessment is underway for Bob was expansion. And from the plans I've seen, Bob wade will remain with 255 being a large 4 lane to 4 lane light at the parkway. I doubt any real construction will happen until next year.

Also keep in mind none of our representatives wanted to increase gas tax, which hasn't increased in many years. Most of that money goes to rural counties. It will take higher sales tax to pay for it I'm sure.

Yes they have started the long process of acquiring the land, no urgency though. A well designed freeway would have a complete cloverleaf at the parkway that would handle traffic for at least 20 years. What we will get is the bare minimum solution that will do little to handle the increased traffic from I-565. The state if they had vision would have bought the what was vacant land at that intersection years ago, but now has developments that will have to be bought at much higher prices.

Cloverleaf's take up much land. And honestly, clover leafs from one busy road onto another just backs up the ramp.

I haven't seen a new cloverleaf in decades. That was after all the original controlled interchange. There are a myriad of other designs now that take up less land (a necessity in urban areas) and are far more efficient in dispersing traffic.

agreed will we see that in Huntsville? Are the new south parkway considered modified diamonds?
Of course the point being is tremendous amount of delays in building any infrastructure in this state and particularly Huntsville and Mobile. It is good to see the long delayed projects in Birmingham being completed and underway.

The Zierdt Road/Town Madison Parkway/I-565 interchange project is completely different from all other projects because Louis Breland is paying the $22 million construction cost of the project. Therefore, the states poor financial situation is not delaying it like other projects. ALDOT did have to get approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation to build the interchange because it is a federal interstate highway. That process to get approval caused a delay of several years. Theoretically, Breland is in the drivers seat to push the contractors to speed up construction, since he, personally is footing the bill in order to make Town Madison happen.

Why on earth aren't we raising gasoline taxes to pay for needed infrastructure/roads, etc? The badly needed roads are costing us far more than a few cents gas tax. Time, energy wasted, car expenses, etc. are getting out of hand. Raise the gas tax now!

Because why would we want to send even more money north to Fayetteville and South to gas alley?
The TN border already gets enough lottery money from us.
