Swimmers Guide - Find a Pool

didn't provide any outdoor pools - only indoor pools.

Anyone know of any outdoor pools for lap swimming? Looking for something within maybe 15 minutes of Wynn drive/Bradford.

Anything on the Redstone Arsenal?

UAH has a fitness center with indoor pool (requires membership). The Natatorium is a public indoor pool on Drake (IIRC roof opens seasonally) - also within 15 mins of Wynn. Many neighborhoods have outdoor pools (membership). YMCA on Weatherly or Blue Springs (membership).

I don't think the Arsenal has a pool available to non-military.

Huntsville Hospital Wellness Center in Madison and at the Medical Mall has indoor pools for lap swim and other classes. They require a membership as well.

I found three outdoor pools at the Arsenal, open Memorial Day to Labor Day. I think DOD Civilian contractors can use them.

Charles - not all civilian DOD contractors get a pass for the arsenal. They limit the number and your employer has to put in a specific request for you.

Check Dublin Park in Madison for both an indoor and outdoor pool. Also check the YMCA in Madison for their outdoor pool.

I completely forgot about Dublin. I swim there all the time when I'm out there. I seem to remember that lap swimmers must use the indoor pool though, but maybe that was just that day when I asked to lap swim in the outdoor pool.

I believe you have to join, e.g., MWR club or something, and pay monthly dues. But you can always call and ask.

There's always the Tennesse river

I used the MWR outdoor pools (there are two available; three total) last summer. I just paid a walk in fee of like $3 or $4. Looking forward to when they open again in a couple months.

Thank you to the person who mentioned the Sherwood Pool. It is practically walking distance from where I work. I suspect however, I'd have to be a Sherwood resident. Maybe I can become friends with some Sherwood mom who doesn't work and goes out and enjoys the pool and could use a "guest".
