Another thread has been covering the home price question...

I suspect the same thing is happening with apartment and home rentals. How have these prices been affected? Is there a shortage of apartments like there is with homes for sale?

Building costs have been going up a lot lately. Should that mean that even as new homes and apartments are built the rental prices will still being going up for years to come?

Presumably rental prices are following suit with home prices. There are several (probably 15 or so) large apartment complexes under construction in the area, and they use a lot of wood and sheathing. I'm sure they'll pass the increased construction cost along to the renters.
