Wow indeed. Does either the mayor or police chief say why they're so supportive of Darby? If the juror interviewed is telling the truth, there seems to be no doubt that Darby was in the wrong.

I just reviewed the juror statement with someone able to parse it all, with discussions about things that jurors might not understand, like gallows humor and sarcasm in the face of an interrogation, or the requirement by protocol to handcuff a dead man. One procedural thing raised a huge red flag in reference to accessing video:

"The HPD witnesses called to the stand by the defense said they hadn’t accessed it, but that there are access records kept. The prosecutors pointed out that when they asked for those records, they had been deleted."

Those records of who accessed material are, in essence, sacrosanct. There is NO legitimate reason for them ever to be deleted. EVER. That goes beyond Darby or the immediate issue and into legally required departmental record keeping.

In response to your question, my suspicion is that the support is the GOB (good ol boy) network in action. That the two other officers were forced into remedial training and subsequently are no longer employed tells us a lot about the culture.

At this point, my comment is that if Parker had been someone more prominent in the community, any "justice" as determined by the police chief and mayor, would have taken an entirely different course.

The HPD cruisers motto is 'To Serve and Protect'.
Crazy dude called the HPD saying he wanted to kill himself.
LEO responds to see a man with a gun to his head and another LEO's life in danger.
He's paid to SERVE.
He's paid to PROTECT.
He did both...

How does a man with a gun to his own head endanger another LEO's life?

Not to mention the swapping of the ammo in his shotgun, adjusting sunglasses for "style points", that the man only had a flare gun in his hand, the testimony of the other officers present, etc, etc.

Flare guns easily hold (aka 'chamber') a shotgun shell.

They are legally known as FIREARMS.

https://www.atf.gov/file/55446/download

Both can be bought at Walmart without any questions by anyone over the age of 18 years.

That LEO had no clue as to what that crazy suicidal man had chambered that flare gun with.

Now that flare gun can most possibly be an explosive 'bomb' that endangers everyone's lives in the room.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9okikBPvmHU

That LEO commanded that crazy suicidal man to lower his firearm - that crazy suicidal man did not comply.

From previous educational training and real life experience with crazy suicidal people, that LEO knew better that to carry on continuous and life endangering 'oh pity me' dialog with this armed nut... like a mommy would do with a spoiled unruly child before putting them in 'timeout'.

This crazy suicidal person was grown man - those days of mommy begging 'pretty please' and 'timeout' BS are over - wackos don't get second third and fourth chances over and over with 'participation trophies' for being incompetent criminals.

With his own life and the other LEO's lives in danger of death and/or dismemberment from the destructive capability of that FIREARM, the LEO preformed his duties as trained and as prescribed by law

He's not some high school guidance councilor dealing with children asking them 'pretty please' - this is HIS life OR death.

This LEO needs to be rewarded for facing danger and protecting his fellow citizens from mentally deranged law breaking criminals.

Sadly, lawyers are trained to do whatever they can to win - whether it be to lie, cheat, using wealth, politics, racism, mass-media, and stretching the letter and intent of the law as far as they legally can.

They can convince just about anyone (sometimes rarely even including myself) that the truth is a lie and a lie is the truth.

The vast majority of our local 'jurors pool' (also nationwide) are minimally educated and continuously watch fictional fairytale stories, fake scripted 'reality' shows, sports, and useless fake news from their TV's, and even more sports, porn, and racist indoctrination from their internet lookie box iPads and iPhones - it's been known as 'Bread and Circuses' since Roman times.

The job as a LEO is not as depicted on fictional TV shows - it's 'reality', dead is dead... not like some Xbox game where you press the reset button and get 3 more chances at 'getting the bad guys'.

LEO lives are in danger 24/7/365, on and off the job - they've been painted as shooting targets for lunatics because of the liberal justice systems with the aid of the liberal main-stream-media.

Officer Genisha Pegues testimony against this fine LEO lead to his conviction - thank God for Justice and the Appellate Process.

Of course he didn't. He wasn't on scene long enough to know anything.

... lots of blathering ...
There were three officers on scene. What makes Darby right and the other two, who had considerably more experience than him, wrong?

Are you even aware of what you are posting? What does the link have to do with Darby's conviction?

The situation was under control until this jackass came and decided he wanted to make the worst decision of his life. You know you really messed up when your fellow officers testify against you. If you ask me he did not get enough time. It also makes even worse that the Mayor stood behind this dude and the murderer was still getting paid after the conviction. Only a delusional fool thinks what happened was ok and how the Mayor and the Police Chief handled it was ok. You truly live in a land of delusion if you have no problem with this situation!!

Upon seeing the body camera footage, if I were a juror I would have no choice but to convict.

My concern now is WTF were the police chief and Battle thinking in defending this guy?

Racing to a scene, attempting to seize control from officers already in charge (insubordination), then stating in a voice loud enough to be heard by the subject "Put your gun on him!" I've worked with the mentally ill, but even if I hadn't, that IDIOCY almost got at least one of those officers killed. If the subject had panicked at hearing that shift of tenor, he would have shot before Mr. Macho even had a chance to even aim.

Had he raced to the scene and then whispered to the officer at the door to put his gun in a position where he could fire, yeah.

Unbelievable, and the reaction of the police chief and mayor are even MORE unbelievable. I am disgusted with both of them.
