Earlier this year, after a few months of prodding by my friends, I started to play Pickleball. I was mocking the sport, dumb name, played by grandmas, whatever.

Six month later, I'm hardcore addicted. I've played in Albertville, Sandra Moon, Florence, and Athens. Made more friends in the past six months than the previous 14 years of living in Bama.

If you haven't tried it, check it out.

If you tried it, Athens is hosting a tournament in October at the Rec Center tennis courts.

Husband has been interesting for several months and finally took a lesson last Sunday. Our neighborhood has some nice courts. Even Park & Rec have converted a few of the tennis courts to pickleball, which is most unusual of our P&R to change anything.
Husband really loves the social aspect.

That's fantastic. My friend, Chase, gives lessons. Helped me out a ton.

If you are ever in Athens, we play MWF - 9-12, and WF 5-8. Open play and lots of people willing to guide you along the way.

I've made more friends in the past 7 months that I did the previous 14 years. Wicked good fun.

We've also have Athens Rec Center on HWY 31, that has open play Tu-Friday 9-12, and Monday and Wednesday nights 4:30-8:30.

Decatur has quite a few indoor locations as well. I think TC Almon is their big one, but they have more.

My husband was really getting into pickleball before his heart attack. He'll be back eventually. I've been amazed by how quickly it's been embraced everywhere. Usually Decatur is slow as sticky mud to embrace anything new, but they've converted a surprising number of tennis courts into pickleball courts.
