Those articles were definitely slanted that way.

I spent 40 years working in and with the Air Force. The ways they can think of to waste money has always amazed me. If they have to build something in Alabama, then they DON'T need to move anything from Colorado.

Neither of the publications were government sites, but the decision to move was made under Trump. And the current Sec of the AF was appointed by Biden. He'll do whatever his boss wants him to do, regardless of what the "studies" showed. Of course, those studies could be politically biased as well. Most things are.

In local news, Colorado Senator Bennett was insisting on a meeting with Sec of Defense Austin. Well that meeting has already occurred but no details yet.

It seems more information and details are found in Colorado publications:

It appears that DOD leaders will stop saying that a decision is coming soon.

The shadiness of this all is about what's to be expected.

Maybe they were stalling until Shelby retired.

Colorado's U.S. senators met with Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on Thursday and came away with an assurance that the ultimate location of U.S. Space Command won't be based on political considerations.

So why are these politicians making it one?

I hope the Command stays in CO.

Our area's workforce is struggling to support the current load and we have the FBI influx already ramping up and will contribute to the dearth. Staff effectively are moving from one contract to another in a circle. There is not enough new talent moving into the area and the desire to work remotely is hindering the inflow. Kind of hard to work in a classified area from the comforts of your home in Timbuktu with your PJs on. Additionally, local contracts' staffing plans are based on local labor rates. Even if your contract can support remote workers, you are limited to those living in areas whose rates are similar to Huntsville. Not many options.

Well, the ultimate decision was supposedly already made, but then the Colorado senators got into the mix (can't really blame them - doing their jobs) so no surprise regardless of what really happens. Should be a technical decision, not a pork barrel one. Sure is dragging out a long time though.

Unless something has recently changed, a majority of USSPACECOM workforce is comprised of active duty Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy, and Space Force servicemembers.

There are still a number of support offices on Redstone Arsenal that exist to support servicemembers. The relocation is a positive thing for them after BRAC took away the majority of their customers.
