In depth article on the denver line.

https://denverite.com/2022/02/22/why...neighborhoods/

Original marketing was to route underserved neighborhoods and that idea failed. In the end, the denver light rails routed thru the areas they could get track space vs suburban neighborhoods.

Funding is looking rough too. Appears safety issues are growing thus losing riders. Schedules, when working, are 35-40 min between trains. In theory, a light rail system that mirrors Hwy 431 and Pulaski would allow many without cars to get downtown.

Huntsville’s Acquisition Integration is pumping $30 million into building a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) operation at Pryor Field Regional Airport in Limestone County.

The distribution, logistics and services company has a four-phase plan to build 170,000 square feet of hangar and office space, with the operation creating about 250 jobs

Back in the '60s, when I first came to Huntsville, one could fly on scheduled airlines from the old Huntsville airport to Pryor Field.

I had to chuckle when I read the "very close to science fiction" comment. I seem to remember that same sentiment in the 1950s concerning lofting objects and monkeys into the outer reaches of the atmosphere. By that sentiment, Huntsville today should still be a cotton town and the Saturn V a transplanted lighthouse.

MASS transit is an outdated technology. Improving the options for individual transit is not. From a logistics perspective, the basic triangle of Huntsville, Decatur, and Athens will exist and determine growth for years. Connecting them in some fashion is a necessity that will only grow more pressing.
Going back in time to an older post, but I hope you're right. It would be nice for Decaturites and Athenites to have transport options into the main core, and even for individuals who wanted to go from Madison to Point Mallard without driving. Perhaps something like that will happen some day. I don't think this area will have subways anytime in the near future, but some form of area-wide transportation would be good. But it has to be safe. From what we see on television and hear otherwise is that public transportation has gotten dangerous for many. Hope that never happens here, but honestly, I'd not want to take the existing Orbit in some parts of town (that said, I've never used an Orbit bus).

At one time, there was a demonstration project proposed that linked Huntsville International to downtown using a maglev train. That never went beyond gleams in a few persons' eyes.
