OK so my wife wanted to get some of the too-good-to-be-true promotions so she woke me up at 5:00am. We got to Walmart by 5:30am and it was already too late! Mobs have already invaded the store and all the "goodies" were long gone. Went over to hhgreggs and the same. Not only that but people actually lined up and waited another hour to pay for their items. All this at 5:30am !!! ????

Drove around Madison on the way home and saw ALL stores & mall parking lots were FULL of cars !!! What economy bad times? There are just too many shoppers too eager to spend their money at 6~7 am! The funny thing is that some of them were having the sales ALL WEEK!

I must admit that I do not understand this fanaticism on Black Friday. My wife too was infected with this "virus". She was all excited and giggles like a little girl on the idea of getting up & leave the house in the cold dark morning to go shopping! She was still happy even though we did not buy anything! The best deal I saw was $100 off a laptop. I don't think I want to wake up at 3am and wait outside in the cold for an hour freezing my tender butt just to save $100.

So anyway, we came home and got our shopping done on Amazon. Free sales tax and free shipping. Done !

My deal was sitting on an airplane home from my Thanksgiving trip to California with plenty of empty seats.

I think Black Friday is insane. I wouldn't brave those crowds even if they were GIVING away stuff. I already own too much stuff as it is.

You are a VERY GOOD HUSBAND, HB2HSV!!!!! Not many would get up and humor a wife doing such.

I wonder what the stores looked like Friday afternoon during the Iron Bowl?

I actually did a lot of shopping yesterday, although not during the Iron Bowl. The cashiers I talked to said things were crazy in the morning, dead during the game, and picked back up after the game ended.

I went to Wal-Mart right at 5, saw the state of things, and headed right over to Target. They had a long line for GPSes but everything else was fine--crowded but manageable, and I got some good deals. At Old Navy, the shopping was good but the checkout lines were long. They kept it orderly though, and that was nice.

Went home, took a nap, and watched the game (roll tide), then went back out shopping. Crowds were down to that of a normal busy day, and pretty much everything was still available except for the doorbuster TVs and laptops. I spent about $400, and saved $350 just on my morning run. It's really not bad as long as you aren't going after a really, really hot item, and understand you're going to be waiting in a couple long checkout lines.

I'm with you Zennjenn. There is NO bargain worth getting up that early for and waiting in ridiculously long lines! I end up having to buy most of what I need online anyway because the selection of items here isn't all that great, and I can usually swing free shipping somehow or another!!

Did you know if you put your items in the cart or wish list and wait a while before buying, you can see the prices go down and/or up several times.
I keep mine several months before buying (I plan few months in advance what I need/want, usually the big-ticket items where $20-50 drop counts), lock in the lowest price, and when it comes around second time, I buy.
