Now that I have been given directions, I would appreciate advice on the locations in Huntsville regarding motels. I booked with the Hampton Inn on Boulevard South, but once I actually saw a better map, I think it appears a bit out from town, am I correct? I also saw possibilities with the Hampton Inn Express..it appears to be closer to everything.

Anyone know anything about the locations and which is best?

Thank You!

Homewood Suites in Providence. New, clean, close to food, close to university street, modern, tucked away but still close, quiet, free breakfast, free dinner (M-Th) and most important of all: free internet. Don't worry that it isn't right next to Redstone Arsenal. Everything in Huntsville is "ten minutes away".

Depends on what part of town you are wanting to be in. Blvd South is where I work. There is a bnch of places to eat right there. The hotel is right beside a little shopping center with about 5-6 places to eat. Its only about 3-5 minutes to Parkway Mall. You are less than 5 minutes to any restaurant on Airport Road. At least I can do it during lunch time on weekdays. If you are needing to get on the Arsenal then its literally the street below Martin Rd when going south on the Parkway. So you are not way out of town. You are not super close to some parts of town but you are to others.

Again, thank you for the tips. Actually, my daughter and I are going to Huntsville to scout it out, as my oldest son retires from the Navy in a little over two years, and he has chosen Huntsville as the place he plans to retire to. He has been a few times, and wants us to see the area. I have no clue as to what are the best parts of Huntsville. I would like to see the downtown when we go, take in the Botanical Gardens. Perhaps taken in the Space Center, and just enjoy getting acquainted, so that's why I am confused. I am visualizing Huntsville as being about the size of Chattanooga.... also, we want to experience Logan's Roadhouse Restaurant. Is the traffic as hectic as the Atlanta area?

NO!!!!! As a native Georgian who lived in Atlanta 30 years and been here a little over a year, I can assure you that you will be thrilled with the traffic. What there is of it!!!!You will like Huntsville, a very nice town. I love the Botanical Gardens and the parks and greenways close by to hike, along with community theatre and even big acts that come to the VBC.

Also don't have high expectations for the downtown area.

Yes! I absolutely agree...Homewood Suites is great, staff is wonderful. I always recommend it to my clients who are on house hunting trips, and they have all been very happy with their stay.
We also always try to stay in the Hilton "family" of hotels, but I really like the Homewood Suites when we travel. They offer a very nice free breakfast, and have a complimentary cocktail hour/meal during the week...and yes, Charles, the FREE WIFI!

We had to PAY for WIFI at the Marriot. Plus I had a new bottle of perfume taken AND they found a revolver under our mattress, loaded. No joke.

That is so annoying. The flagships Marriott and Hilton charge for internet but their lower tiers Homewood, Residence Inn, Fairfield Inn, Hampton Inn, etc all give free internet.

I never stay at a Marriott or Hilton. Usually you don't get other conveniences like microwave, fridge, etc. But you get those fancy chandeliers and some guy to carry your bags, or some overpriced restaurant on the premises, etc. Big deal.

I checked the prices on the Homewood Suites, but they are beyond my humble means. I did book off University Street at the Hampton Inn. Having no clue, I may not have chosen the nicest motel, but according to the agent, it's much closer than the Redstone Arsenal area. I just need a decent motel, in an area that's convenient. I will keep in mind that I should not be overly expectant on the downtown area. Thanks again all!
