Only in recent decades has the Jersey shore become a year-round residence for so many people instead of just a summer destination with a winter population of fishermen, etc. More people retire to the shore, as well.

With high-speed ferry service to the Wall Street area, it's become a commuter's area, too.

Thirty years ago, this storm would still have caused damage but not affected so many people's daily lives as it is doing right now.

I wanted to update everyone on the CONTINUING snow issue in West Virginia and the Appalachians.

When I spoke to my husband earlier today (11/1/12) it was STILL snowing on the WV mountaintop he's on. They had well over 36 inches at the time, so I am not sure what the final tally is.

Thank God for generators.

In that video you can also see the persistent plague of clouds over New Jersey, even before Sandy's clouds came.

Hey everyone, I finally got my power back after 72 hours in the dark. Right now, I am pumping out my basement. Have about 2 feet of water down there. My area in Sheepshead Bay got hit really hard by the surge of the bay and wind. I had gusts over 80 mph Monday night. My street turned into a river. Monday night seemed like the 4th of July with all the transformers going off. Alot of trees are still down and alot of houses are flooded and cars are destroyed. What a mess over here. Hope all is well with everyone.

This is just within 2 miles around me and its peanuts compared to whats others are going through.

And these were taken today... 4 days later. Just from a couple of roads I was driving on. Some still blocked.

Blue light are cops that just showed up. Lines are insane and lucky to have a station open....for now.
