Is it possible to live in Idaho Falls, or Idaho in general, without being LDS? Our family is actually a mix of non practicing Catholic and Atheist.

Sure! No problem at all. The Latter Day Saints are an old religion here, and a goodly part of them don't attend church either, nor do they practice abstaining from tobacco, alcohol, or the other stuff.

ABout the only intrusion a newcomer may have is a couple of missionaries coming around, mostly sent to inform you of where the closest church house is located in the neighborhood. If they're politely notified you aren't aren't a member and aren't interested, they will leave you alone because you're a neighbor, not a stranger.

Most times, a newcomer won't even see missionaries at all.

Life among the Mormons here is different than it is in small towns or out in other places where the Mormon presence isn't as widespread.

Idaho Falls has always had many active faiths from its earliest beginnings, and there is a lot of tolerance toward all religions, and no religion. Our very first church was Baptist, not LDS, and as many of our towns founding fathers were not LDS as were.

Since about half of them aren't very religious, most of the local missionary effort is directed towards pulling the stray lambs back into the fold here. That alone keeps the missionaries busy.

cleosmom, uh huh. You will be exposed to the culture of the LDS, but it isn't "in your face", and that is not how they operate. I departed for various reasons, but the LDS church was not the main driving factor.
