We don't have our dogs or cats on any preventatives (except regular vaccines) and we've had no problems.
I was all set to put them on heartworm preventative but our vet said he'd gladly sell it to us to take our money , but despite the manufacturer's advertising, there's really very minimal risk of heartworm here.

I guess the heartworm is what I'm really concerned about, probably because it's been embedded into my head all of my life that dogs need it. That's interesting and good to know that there isn't a high risk in this area. Just one more reason why I love it here so much.

Lyme vaccine? hmmm... will have to look at that.

any size tick can carry Lyme...

My first tick bite, which was a minor bite as it did not imbed gave be Colorado Tick Fever. I was sick for a couple of weeks so watch out for that one too.

Lyme is in Idaho. There is a doctor in Pocatello, a naturopath, Dr West, who treats it. He has dont quite well with my neighbor who has had Lyme for over 20 years. Now symptom free.... we think he might be cured.
