dcisive,

I do agree with you on this one, and when I reflect on this thread I recognize that I was pretty harsh to the OP after his unfortunate decision to ask for "not a racially diverse area" without any clarifying information when he probably more accurately meant "not culturally diverse". I very much enjoy the general "Americana" feel of this place, and I think it's served by the cultural homogeny.

For example, the huge number of people enthusiastic about classic American cars means that our Sandpoint and CDA car shows are seriously BIG events. For a city like Sandpoint (pop 7,000) to put on a classic car event like "Lost in the 50's" is a case in point of where cultural homogeny has a positive influence. Another example...I recall going to the Scottish festival at the Queen Mary in Long Beach some years back...some pipe bands and a couple hundred spectators pulled from a 17 million person population pool (LA/OC/SBdo/Riv). Then coming up here, participating in a Scottish pipe band festival just over the border in B.C., with double the number of pipe bands and about triple the number of spectators in the spring and then over in Spokane in August...from a population pool of about 5% that size. Again, without the heavily concentrated Scottish/Irish cultural influence (and lack of other heavy cultural influence pulling spectators/enthusiasts away), this wouldn't be as possible.

Hello all, I don't think gsc3zny can be faulted for seeking quality of life and being from Ca myself I understand the concern about the demographics of a possible future home. I raised girls and in choosing where to live I had to consider demographics myself as their safety was of utmost importance. As there is a certain vulnerability that comes with aging seniors, again, that is most important.
