Well, Clark and the boys have a mighty fine front porch. But down here in southern Idaho we just have a bit of a stoop.

Of course you northies from the skinny part of the state are still welcome, but if we lean a bit southern here, don't blame us.

So in great news Jerome High School's class of '63 will be having their 50th this summer. Come on all you Tigers!

And as previously noted by another poster, Richfield will be holding Outlaw Day here shortly.

As I said elsewhere we had a teacher chosen by NASA here in Twin Falls. She will be doing test flights and whatever else science stuff she does.
If you get up to Shoshone take in the Wallace Street Fair, on right now.

Have a great remainder of your weekend.

Stoopers, huh? I have no comment on that!

Hey, it's June 1st. The BIGWATER BLOWOUT RIVER FESTIVAL is on today on the Salmon River near Riggins and the MOUNTAIN BREWERS BEER FEST (I can't believe you guys missed this one!) is also today at Sandy Downs in Idaho Falls.

We appreciate your offer of participation from the folks in the skinny part of the state...."the northies".

Good job, Roamin Idahoan. Keep up the good work!

Holy moley, it's a big state and hard to cover everything in one go. And I wanted to leave topics near and dear to others hearts available to them to spread the news on.

Now I can't get up there, but I shall raise a glass or 2 in honor of blowing out bigwater and the beer fest. And hopefully not do too much blowing out after too much beer.

Well, well, now we have two places to hang out! I guess we'll just pull up a rock if the stoop is full. And of course anyone is also welcome at the NID Front Porch! (If I'd had a little more C-D experience when I started the thread, I'd just have made it "The Idaho Front Porch," but NID is the part of Idaho I was most familiar with ). Looking forward to reading about southern shenanigans !

I don't plan on missing a single post on The Southern Idaho Trailer Stoop. I have a hunch we'll get many a laugh from that bunch of downstaters and other Idahoans who participate on this new thread. Not only plenty of laughs - mind you - but lots of good thoughts and information, too.

Psst....step a little closer, Roamin Idahoan, (I don't want the others to hear) Did you just say "holy moley" in one of your posts? If you did I want to tell you that I haven't heard that one in many years! Gadzooks!

Well shoot. I guess I will tell the life story (abridged) of my Grandpa who was born in Kansas and ended up in Jerome, ID.

Now Grandpa was the 14th child of a well to do Kansan farmer, strict Presbyterian type. Grandpa was a rounder and along with his younger brother wasn't liked very much by his Dad.

Grandpas mom passed away soon after the birth of child 17. Grandpa was raised by his oldest sister, who did the best with him she could. But Grandpa, being an indepent rounder type took to the wild side and dropped out of school in 8th grade.

His dad left him the worst land he could in Kansas. And when the dust bowl came, Grandpa and Grandma were bowled right outta there. They went first to Park City, Utah. There great aunt tried to get them to buy some land and settle down. But grandpa wasn't happy there. So he moved onto Nevada, then onto Salinas in California. There he was worked near to death by a farmer, so he looked around to move again.

His sister told him Ketchum/Sun Valley had potential so come on up. Well Grandpa headed up, but stopped in Jerome. Now Grandpa wasn't poor, having a bit of an inheritance but he wasn't rich. And he passed on land in Park City, UT and Sun Valley right when the getting was great to buy. Those of course are very hot properties now, haha.

So Grandpa settled in Jerome, and continued his rounder ways, playing in a band. He built his house on Fillmore, and it was just outside of city limits. When he got older he'd race home from the bar in his Mustang, and the cops would follow him to the city line, and then stop as he got home safe. They never caught him.

Grandpa worked on the Hells Canyon Dam, and built a lot around Ketchum, and Twin Falls and Jerome. The whole Magic Valley really. He was chief engineer at Jerome Convalescent Hospital, and when he retired took over as live-in caretaker at the Masonic Temple in Twin.

He loved to fish, and loved Braves baseball. I watched many games with him there on vacation and spent great times trout fishing. I can still remember flooding his yard from the ditch and electrifying the worms for bait, haha.

My grandpa passed away in 1983 at 75 in Twin Falls in the hospital there. Occasionally I can hear a bit of a whistle, that sounds exactly to me like his hearing aid used to whistle.

If you go up Fillmore off Main and get to a little house, more rectangle than square with an empty lot on the south (I think it's still empty, pretty narrow to build on if it's subdivided) that's the house that Grandpa built. Not sure who owns it now actually.

Grandma moved to Boise after grandpa passed away to be nearer to medical specialists that she needed.

Rumor is grandma and grandpa did some 'shinin in Kansas before heading out with two young kids in tow...

And that's how my moms side of the family ended up in Idaho.

Funny you should ask that Before landing in the NW we lived in Tennessee. Crawdads aren't my favorite due to their little eyes looking' at me, but I do enjoy my grits, hushpuppies and sweet potato pie!

Love your stoop down here!
