Well, after never thinking we would want to leave, we are DONE with California. We own a nice gun store, own our own home, pay our taxes and it never seems to be enough. We have friends that have been looking, one that owns in the Northern area and now I'm looking to move us out.

Having said all that, I have a business (gun store) that I can move so income is not a concern but I'm seriously torn between two different areas. I like the idea of Nampa since it is close to a lot of stuff and not as much snow with gun clubs all around to shoot with. Our other like is the Coeur d'Alene or Priest Lake areas. We already live in a small western town in California where people still wave as we pass but close enough to the big cities to make livings outside of our farms.

Shooting sports take up most of our time but I see there are clubs in both areas. We are NOT big city people, are very conservative and like our space. We will be buying a property on no less than 10 acres and I would love to hear what you think about these areas and any suggestions on other areas. We are not set in stone and won't be back up to Idaho until August.

Thanks!

The only thing in common is that those two places happen to be in Idaho. Really don't know what to tell ya except when I drove from SoCal to Idaho through Nampa I looked around and kept driving. When I reached NID I breathed a sigh of relief and parked the car.

Our many exploratory expeditions into Idaho never followed the path elousv remembers, but I agree with her. Nampa would never have been our choice, but NID always was. It was a "fit" then, and it still is today.

Good luck. I hope your business will flourish wherever you decide to escape to.

The more I look at properties available, we are both more mountain, tree people and the Nampa area just looks flat and desert type. From what I read, the NID areas are more friendly too. Thanks for input! Please continue to share!

I was in your exact shoes 2 years ago. We looked all over in the Boise and surrounding areas, and found it to be a desert landscape, and the property taxes are high for Idaho. I had all but ruled out Idaho after looking there. We looked in Spokane and surrounding, and ended up in CDA, Rathdrum to be exact. Nice property, convenient to everything, low elevation, and milder temps than Boise in the summer, and winter, although North Id gets quite a bit more rain, But the place is unbelievably beautiful, and great people. We are in the process of moving right now, and I can't wait to be there for good!
