Yes, but rarely. I was told by a local fledgling pilot during his night training that when we are technically capable of seeing the phenomenon, the northern lights are clearly visible (an an amazing sight) from the air, even when invisible from the ground.

I've never seen them in Boise, but that doesn't mean they've never happened. But northern Idaho would be more likely, if still rare.

We saw them in the winter in Boise about 15 years ago. I'm not sure why we went outside and looked up. They were faint, but clearly Northern Lights.
