Anywhere you are in or around CdA will put you closer to the airport than what you're used to. Ditto for ski areas, it's a quicker trip to Schweitzer or Silver Mountain than it is from Evergreen to Breck.
I'm actually supposed to be in Denver this afternoon for GABF. Had to cancel, wife is sick :-(
Thanks Dave! If you include the nightmare Colorado traffic, I bet the difference is even bigger. I can't wait to check CDA out next week!
Hey Mtnpilot, Forest Hill was right above the Little Bear, stumbling distance to get home. I lived in four different houses in Evergreen over the years, two south of the lake and two north. Just as I thought all of Colorado was getting too crowded so was Evergreen; I remember when highway 74 was a quiet two lane road, now it is a very busy 4 lane road. Still quieter than Denver, but lots more people in and around Evergreen. Heck, try to go to Elk Meadow on a weekend and there are cars spilling out of the parking areas and roads.
I do like CDA so far in spite of there not being as many trails in my backyard. I haven't explored the area north of town but I think that area may have some trails. The are. a is a lot like Evergreen with the trees and mountains with the lake and rivers thrown in. Lots of different opinions on the ski areas, we will try them all out this winter and figure out which one we like best. We don't find ourselves going over to Spokane much as almost everything can be found in CDA.
I'm a third generation Coloradan looking to escape the crowds that have made me feel like a stranger in my own state. I've spent some time in Boise, and I really love the people there (reminds me of Denver 20 years ago!) but feel that Northern ID is more similar to where I grew up in Colorado (Conifer/Evergreen).
I'm an avid outdoorsman, and spend pretty much all of my free time either mountain biking, hiking/climbing, and snowboarding. My wife and I are visiting CDA in a couple weeks to see if that might for the bill, but I wanted to see what you all think might be the best fit for mountain sports minded people. We also like to shoot guns, and drink beer (not at the same time of course!).
We're both in our late 30s, and I need to live approximately one hour from the Spokane airport for my job. Thanks for any recommendations/advice!
At least your vehicle registration will go from $700 per year to $70 per year in Idaho.
If you wanted to be closer to Spokane airport and have WA income tax and other laws, Liberty and Newman Lakes might be worth a look. Or 9 Mile Falls or Loon Lake.
If airport trips weren't too frequent Whitefish MT might appeal.
There are peak scrambles, technical lines, crags and boulders in and near the Selkirks. Lightly used. Some guide books available.

Oh yes, I forgot about the traffic. They need to make 25 six lanes each direction from FoCo to Denver. That way, there will still be three lanes available during the daily accidents.
[mod cut] enjoy your time up here!

I know this is an old thread, just wondering if you decided on Cda or not? My wife and I used to live north of Black Hawk and Arvada before that.
