Pretty much any car with studded tires should do well on snow and ice.

I've checked Craiglist and there are a handful (if even) listed in Bonners. We currently have a 4wd Expedition with studable tires - if we went ahead and studded them, would a commute from Sandpoint to Bonners be reasonable? We currently live in Boise - moved here from the DC area years ago. We've dealt with long drives to work - but they've involved cars sitting still forever.
Why commute to Bonners Ferry and not live there?

The other thread says they're having a hard time finding a rental in Bonners.

Sagle Sam,
Rentals seem to be slim pickings and we want to rent before buying anything. I'm imagining the market is the usual up there - more rentals will show up in the spring. We might just have my husband move us there first and rent a room and then we'll follow. We've got our rental in Boise 'till the end of April, so we can do the move in stages in need be, would just prefer not to have to. So - if anyone has suggestions on the best places to look for rentals, I'm all ears! Or the specific names of areas to look. So far I'm looking under Bonners Ferry, Naples and Sandpoint. Does that pretty much cover the area?

You may want to look at Ponderay for possible rentals. It's really just Sandpoint North, but it may have separate listings. That's where most of the hotels are, anyway.
